Restoration after the Lisbon earthquake

After the Lisbon earthquake the situation of the ruined Belfry Tower that had been affected by the fire of 1705 worsened

After several masters had been consulted who recommended the demolition of the tower, a report was requested from the engineer Baltasar Devreton who provided a definitive solution that would avoid such drastic action.

Jerónimo García de Quiñones and Manuel de los Ríos were commissioned to carry out the restoration work.
